Clyde Common – Domestic & Foreign Cooking
January 31st, 2011
Clyde Common in the Ace Hotel is a great space to grab a burger, a well crafted cocktail and people watch. With it’s voluminous space and enlarged windows you can sit at one of the communal tables for hours watching always interesting Stark Street pass by.
Living Building Challenge
January 30th, 2011
I acknowledge the Moon brothers, Dustin & Garrett, for going against the grain and showing us all there is a better way to exist on our planet. They are building The Commons to be the first U.S. home to meet the Living Building Challenge. WOW. We need more of this. Immediately.
The Commons will generate all its own energy without the use of fossil fuels, live healthy with natural materials, reclaim all of its water and compost all its human waste. The Moon brothers are serious about going beyond the standard green building standards that don’t nearly do enough to save our world, create beauty or build community. THANK YOU!

Guillozet Home Tour – Portland
January 25th, 2011
I stumbled across this home tour last week and was captivated by how the owners were able to make lemons out of lemonade. The Guillozet’s had an 800 square foot 2 bedroom/1 bath home and tripled it’s size. They picked up the house, created a lower level as an ADU (accessory dwelling unit), then built up creating a spacious 3 bedroom/ 2 bath for themselves. The house fits in well in the neighborhood. They now have a vast territorial view out the front, and created some rental income downstairs.
Click here to get more info on how you too can add an ADU to your home.

Belmont Street Loft 3
January 24th, 2011
I’m really excited about this one… I took some footage from here and from here. I love it… but am always looking for honest input. Which one do you dig?
Belmont Street Loft Video 2
January 24th, 2011
I’m trying out this new software and wondering what you all think.
This is the condensed version with not many bells and whistles, but you get the idea. I can add video and choose from thousands of songs to create a multi-media effect.
What’s your impression?
I am going to create and upload a combined version of both of the Belmont Street Loft videos I’ve created later tonight. The first one you can find here and is raw video footage with music added.
Let me know which format is the most engaging…
Modern Views
January 20th, 2011
Modern Views is a new documentary film which portrays the northwest modern architecture movement AND the trailer is above.
The lessons we’ve learned, the lessons we’ve forgotten.
Thank you University of Washington! We need to learn and retain more from our hero’s of the built environment…
The free screening was this evening @ The Center for Architecture – 403 NW 11th Ave, Portland, OR.
I’ve attached the trailer above. And you can find out more about it here. If you’ve seen the full feature please let me know what you thought?
I’ve got a Crush on You Belmont
January 17th, 2011
I held an Open House last Sunday with one of my listings at the Belmont Street Lofts on the inner east side in Portland, Oregon. This building designed by HOLST Architecture has a special place in my heart… maybe because I originally sold all 27 units in 2005… or maybe because I purchased and lived in one myself… which is this exact floor plan. Who else has great taste? With one unit currently in escrow… this one is next!
