Nature Taking It’s Course

January 30th, 2011

Categorized under: News + Events

The Sandy River on Mt Hood roared January 16th, 2011 taking down trees, roads and houses.  This video is a powerful example of nature taking it’s course.

Remember, when buying real estate:

1) Research the geography (what has happened will happen again).

2) Research insurance options; ie. landslide, earth movement, flood, earthquake, fire, etc.  BE WARNED: To be properly and fully insured in areas of known natural disasters, investigate all options before the purchase. Know specifically what insurance covers what, ie. landslide is not earthquake and earthquake is not landslide.

I stumbled across this home tour last week and was captivated by how the owners were able to make lemons out of lemonade. The Guillozet’s had an 800 square foot 2 bedroom/1 bath home and tripled it’s size. They picked up the house, created a lower level as an ADU (accessory dwelling unit), then built up creating a spacious 3 bedroom/ 2 bath for themselves. The house fits in well in the neighborhood. They now have a vast territorial view out the front, and created some rental income downstairs.

Click here to get more info on how you too can add an ADU to your home.

I’m trying out this new software and wondering what you all think.

This is the condensed version with not many bells and whistles, but you get the idea. I can add video and choose from thousands of songs to create a multi-media effect.

What’s your impression?

I am going to create and upload a combined version of both of the Belmont Street Loft videos I’ve created later tonight. The first one you can find here and is raw video footage with music added.

Let me know which format is the most engaging…

I Love our Portland Weather!

January 21st, 2011

Categorized under: Uncategorized

One of my favorite things about Portland is, actually, the weather. Yes, it’s the four well sequenced ever changing seasons, but it’s much more than that.

What took my breath away this morning was a mild misty winter day reminding us that Spring is not too far off.

Today’s silence permeating through a light fog cover amongst the fir trees was a great way to wake up. Drinking a cup of gritty dark espresso on my enclosed back porch I’m thinking… “maybe it’s in my native blood.”

If you have the means… you can take advantage of these hard times. Historic low interest rates AND real estate prices knocked down to what they were 6, 7, 8 years ago. You may lose some change on the sale, but your dream home you will “walk away” with. Remember… when the masses get a whiff, the deal is long gone. And you’ll say over and over… “Remember in 2011 when we should of bought our dream home. I could kick myself.”
